Yesterday’s Council meeting was a short one! It was over by 1035.
Reeve Janine Paly was not in attendance so Deputy Reeve Zilinski chaired the meeting.
-There were 6 members of the public in attendance in person and 11 online participants
-Third reading was done for the new Council Code of Conduct Bylaw 14-2023
-Council voted to not apply to be part of the Rural Renewal Stream-Community Designation program. This program is essentially supports immigration by providing jobs in small communities. No businesses in Thorhild County responded stating they felt they would benefit from such a program.
-Carl Quaife had a delegation to contest an invoice he received for a Fire Department response to a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm. He had called the Gas Dept emergency line and was surprised that the fire department was dispatched (which is apparently standard operating procedure for all CO alarms). Carl argued that he did not call the fire department and questions the fire departments actions (excessive time searching for his cat which they left in the home anyway) and billing ($1034)
-Councillor Dafoe expressed that he has an issue with some of the billing in “Schedule A” of the Emergency Service Bylaw that he regrets not catching earlier when it was being amended (such as the fly rate of $585 for the first hour of response regardless of how many apparatus respond). He stated that it does not make sense if just one apparatus responds that is notrmally billed at &185/hr.
-Council 3-1 (Zilinski being the only dissenting vote) to waive the invoice
These are just the highlights from a short meeting
