Town Hall Meeting May 30, 2023

How do you all feel about last night’s Town Hall meeting? We did a rough count somewhat close to the end and there were just over 250 people there. Some folks had gone home already. There were many passionate voices and many great suggestions!

The results:

✅ The consensus in the room was that the response fees need to end and fire-fighting is an essential service that must be covered by our taxes.

✅ Council is going to develop a survey so that we as a community decide the best way to have fire services covered.

✅ The survey will be MAILED out. We must do our due diligence to not only complete it and return it on time, but to ensure all our friends and neighbors know to watch for it, and know the impact survey participation has.

✅ Council agreed to an interim fee cap so that no other families need to face astronomical charges while the bylaw is in limbo. The number $10k was tossed out but I won’t confirm a number. We will have to wait to see what Council decides for certain

‼️ In the meantime, any suggestions we have for how the bylaw should be written should be emailed to Council and administration immediately.

How inspiring to see so many using their VOICE here in Thorhild County!! As always, You all rock!!
