Tuesday June 13th Council Meeting Summary
✅ Glen Van Dijken was invited by Council as a delegate to answer a few questions, most specifically requesting that he advocate for continued Nurse Practitioner funding in the county.
✅ First reading was given to Draft Bylaw 10-2023 Wastewater Rates Amendment. This bylaw, if passed, will change the current requirement of a $500 annual fee for residents to dump at the lagoon to a $50 annual fee.
✅ Municipal Planning Manager David Blades gave a presentation on proposed Bylaw 09-2023 which is a bylaw to amend the LUB to allow for the Hutterian Brethren Church to build Communal Housing/school site on NW 11-59-21-W4. First reading of the bylaw was given and a Public Hearing set for July 11, 2023.
✅ Council voted to have Reeve Joyce Pierce sign the Family School Liaison Program Master Agreement between Thorhild County and Aspen View Public Schools. The Family School Liaison position is a full-time position that provides consultation and mental health supports to kids in Aspen View Schools.
✅ On Administration’s recommendation, Council chose the municipalities that will be used as comparison for the purposes of salaries.
✅ Council did NOT vote to close the Opal truck fill station, but instead directed Administration to being back information on costs to upgraded and also to seek input from the Fire Chief
✅ The Ski Hill financial report shows that in 2022 the ski hill ran a deficit of more than $290k
And resulting from closed meeting discussions:
✅ Council accepted an offer of $65,000 from Lifestyle Options Retirement Communities for the 23-passenger bus that was up for tender.
✅ Council reports that all viable options to keep the Post Office in Radway have been denied by Canada Post. Therefore, Council directed Administration to respond to Canada Post to advise that the County will provide the current location free of charge for as long as is needed, but the responsibility is on Canada Post to provide postal service.
