Thoughts on Thorhild County – Resident 14

Please list 3 things that you love about Thorhild County:

I love that the forest is still intact in parts of our county. I love that farmers here do not feel the need to clear every tree off their land. I love that the people still connect with a kinship long forgotten in other parts of Alberta.

Please list 3 things that you believe need to change or are a very important concern / issue to you:

  1. There needs to be 100 percent transparency in government meaning NO CLOSED MEETINGS, all councils meetings should be open for the public to hear and see. Council is discussing the county, that means our lands, waters and laws, all pertains to the people and should be heard by the people.
  2. We, with the aid of our councillors need to make our county the most sought after place to live and work in the province. We can do this through an acceptable Land Use Bylaw that removes restrictions on certain sizes and types of homes. It will remove unnecessary bylaws that only cost our county to enforce and do not improve the lives of the people.
  3. We need to keep our county natural and beautiful by cleaning up our hamlets and preserving the incredible natural landscapes, water bodies and wetlands. This does not mean deterring development and growth, it means growing and developing sustainably while co existing with nature.

What is your vision of the future of Thorhild County? What would be Heaven on Earth for yourself, your children, and your grandchildren?

My vision is a prosperous community that supports and encourages local small business and farms. Stores that sell what we grow on their shelves and are not solely buying from huge commercial producers. Being able to purchase everything we eat from local producers.

We have environmental practices that put the future generations first. Meaning there is NEVER be a single liner at the Waste Management landfill and dried carbon is NEVER be released into our sand vaults. We protect water in our county so that it is free of pesticides and volatile organic compounds.

We support our food producing farmers with tax incentives and grants to plant food producing perennials and trees.

We promote tourism and the use of our facilities like the ski hill for year round use.

People build sustainably and coexist with nature and all life within our borders.

We hire our neighbors and work to help them when building or times of trouble.
