VoTC Community Meeting Recap Feb 8

February 8th. – Community Meeting Recap

Feb 13 Council Meeting Agenda Review
With the Feb 13 meeting agenda only being posted at 1630hrs, no one had a lot of time to go through it prior to this evening’s meeting.  One item stood out to several, item 7(e) Policy 203 Council Remuneration.  Basically, in April of 2023, Council voted that “all staff receive a cost-of-living increase”, and item 7(e) is for Council to make an amendment to policy 203 to ensure the policy states they are entitled to their 2024 cost-of-living increase.   Please consider attending the council meetings in person whenever possible.  Especially when there are delegations, it means a lot to the people speaking that there are people there to hear them.

February 24 Connecting Communities – Bringing the Voices Together Event.
We have 4-5 speakers booked for this event that will run from 1pm-5pm and will include lunch. Marketing and ticket information will be available in the next day or two. Please consider attending!

Land Use Bylaw Review
We will have a “Work Bee” day on Sunday March 3 beginning at 1000 at Egremont Hall to begin a thorough review of the Municipal Development Plan, the existing LUB and the Draft version of the proposed LUB that was defeated last year.  Since we paid $80k+ to have the draft LUB made, there was little doubt in anyone’s mind that this is the document that will be adapted by Council for presentation in the future, when they DO decide to revisit the LUB.   We want to be ahead of that and ensure that council has community input into what we would like to see added or removed from our Land Use Bylaw.
Printed copies of the land use bylaws and MDP will be available at the next Community Meeting (Feb 22) for those who want to begin to review them prior to the March 3 work bee.
The March 3rd meeting will be a “Special Meeting”.  PM me for details on what that means if you don’t already know! Please consider attending as it is an excellent time of fellowship as well as familiarizing ourselves with the bylaws that govern us, in a friendly fun environment!

Council
Council members are always welcome and encouraged to attend our Community Meetings. It has been said that Council believes they are “not allowed” or do not want to to attend, which is unfortunate because we would really love to have them.  We understand that while their input may be limited, it is an excellent opportunity for them to hear what the residents they represent have to say about the issues that are important to them. We are a respectful group! Please consider calling or emailing your councillor personally to invite them and encourage them to attend!
We also would like to help Council get better attendance at their Coffee with Council events.  Please consider offering to carpool with people in your area, especially those we don’t drive, those who don’t like to drive at night, or those who would feel more comfortable going with a group rather than alone, which can be intimidating.
