Thoughts On Thorhild County – Resident 7

Please list 3 things that you love about Thorhild County:

1. The people! The way people come together to help and support each other

Please list 3 things that you believe need to change or are a very important concern / issue to you:

1. We need to find out what happened to our emergency services. Why has our volunteer fire department gone from over 40 members to just eight members since the current fire chief took over? Is he actively recruiting new members? If so, why hasn’t he been successful. Maybe we should get input from former ES members to find out why they quit.
2. All of the county employees need to do a better job. They need to listen to ratepayers and get feedback before making decisions for us. More townhall meetings for critical issues, and less closed session council meetings. We have a right to know what our employees are discussing.
3. Taxes are too high for the services we receive. The new taxation of $200 per ‘vacant’ lot is too much and is hurting people on fixed incomes. Our mill rate is one of the highest in this area. Is the finance department purposely creating surpluses by over taxing us? What is the planned use of the already 27 million dollar surplus?

What is your vision of the future of Thorhild County? What would be Heaven on Earth for yourself, your children, and your grandchildren?

I would like to live here without government interference. I would like to be able to trust that the people we elect to oversee the running of Thorhild County can be trusted to do their job without residents having to look over their shoulders. I would like to continue living in the country, I don’t want an influx of people and big businesses.
