Thoughts on Thorhild County – Resident 4

Please list 3 things that you love about Thorhild County:

1) I love the history. Knowing that the are we live in was settled by some of the first immigrants to the region gives me a deep appreciation for the resiliency and resolve we are capable of. I strive to be as strong and capable as those who worked this land with their hands and reaped the rewards of their labour!
2) I love that its a small community with a focus on farming. There is evidence of self-sufficiency on every mile of road here.
3) I love that I know I can count on my community to rally together when needed. It is just as important to know how to accept help as it is to offer it.

Please list 3 things that you believe need to change or are a very important concern / issue to you:

1) I think we have neglected our responsibility to municipal matters for far too long. I think a symbiotic relationship with council of the day needs to be the goal and the standard.
2) I think we need to put municipal taxes back in their proper place of only being collected for essential services….meaning road maintenance and emergency services. Bylaws should be few and minimal as I feel we benefit most by speaking to and working directly with our neighbour on anything that may impact them.
3) Connected to points 1 & 2, I believe we have far too much spending waste and that needs to be brought under control. Especially councillor/administration salaries.

What is your vision of the future of Thorhild County? What would be Heaven on Earth for yourself, your children, and your grandchildren?

A beacon of freedom. Where we have groundbreaking LUB’s for their simplicity (the 10 Commandments come to mind as all that is really needed as I think “love your neighbor as yourself” includes not dumping your garbage in their backyard etc). And to have an extensive network of self-sufficient people, community food plots to teach people to garden and to learn animal husbandry. I would even go so far as to say that we have our own network of neighborhood watch teams and/or a municipal police force with elected sheriffs and with a mandate to “protect and serve” rather than “law enforcement”.
